Chased/attacked

Both Lali & I are fine, but yesterday we were chased and attacked in our own front yard.

I was taking Lali out on leash to do her business when I heard the elderly neighbor across the street asking me, "Have you ever seen this dog before?" before I could even answer the dog in question was across the street and on top of Lali. I can tell you right now, anything you've ever heard about how to protect yourself during a dog attack goes right out the window. All I could think about was saving my 7 month old puppy. I was trying to get Lali away from the female pit bull and not get bit myself in the process. I was yelling and screaming for John to come out and help me get Lali back into the house. He heard all the noise and looked out the upstairs window, saw what was going on and flew downstairs and outside. He managed to distract the dog long enough for me, Lali and himself to get back inside. Brittany managed to snap some pics of what went on after the door got closed and we were inside.

This is the dog coming for the door after it was closed.

The dog jumping at the door and barking, trying to get at Lali & Taelia who were both on the other side smelling around the door jam and doing their Husky talking. If any of you have ever been around Huskies, you know what I'm talking about when I say "talking" for those of you that have never heard a Husky they usually don't bark they make woo-woo or guttural sounds.

This was the last shot that B's was able to take before the cops got there and managed to get the dog into the cop car.
The officer said since there were no physical injuries other than a bruise on the back of my right calf from being nipped that it would go on record as a chase and not an actual attack, even though all three officers that showed up witnessed the dog charging the side door and barking maniacally. The officer said this was the first time since he's been on the force that they've had to respond to a call about an aggressive pit bull. There's a first time for everything I guess.

Anybody that knows me, knows I love animals; I do not blame this poor dog for it's behavior she was more than likely just doing what she'd been taught. I blame the irresponsible people that taught this poor animal that aggressive behavior was acceptable, they are also to blame for not having the ability to secure the dog properly so that it could not get out of it's yard and do harm. The officer said that they'd have the animal control officer scan for a micro-chip, which I seriously doubt the dog will have, and try to find her owner. He said if no owner comes forward that the dog will be evaluated to determine if it is possible to put her into a new home. If she is able to be adopted out, I hope she finds the right kind of family that can show her what it is to be loved and cared for in the manner in which she deserves.

After the officers left, the neighbors were asking if Lali and I were OK, so we went over and talked to them. My neighbor said the dog appeared out of nowhere while she was sitting on her porch smoking her cigarette, she looked up and the dog was standing there staring at her. She said when she went to get up to make her way slowly back into her house the dog came up on the porch so she sat back down and that is when I came out with Lali. When the dog bolted across the street, she managed to get back inside her house and came out with her husband, but by that time John had already came outside as well.

This could have ended up so much worse than it did. I am just glad that Lali wasn't physically hurt, psychologically is another story. My poor baby is skittish about going outside now and any little movement or sound freaks her out. She has always been a little shy around strange people, sounds or animals, but she had gotten so much better, now we are back to square one. I know with time, patience and love she'll be well on her way to overcoming her fears once again.

Have a good day

Oh honey! I am so glad that you are both ok, and that Catman was home to help you both out! My heart was in my throat the whole time reading this. I've read so many similar stories that have less than happy endings. In fact, you and Lali coming outside when you did probably helped to save the neighbor from being attacked too.

Poor baby....you are definitely at square one again on her skittishness. I can't say as I blame her though...that's a shock to the system of a gentle soul.

Oh (((((((((((( FEL )))))))))))))))
I am so glad you guys are ok!!! xoxoxo <3 <3 <3 Love you oodles!

Thank you, my dear friend. I've been thinking the same thing about the neighbor and us coming out when we did.

The dog went to the cop and into his car with no problem, so maybe she's just dog aggressive with no aggression toward people.

You should have seen me, Jewells, I was like a Ninja with my maneuvers trying to keep that dog away from Lali. I don't think I've ever moves so fast in my life. LOL! I knew one thing for sure and that was that I was not going to let of the damn leash.

At one point I had managed to shove Lali under the rear end of the Tahoe, but that damn Pit was quick she dove around me and went right under there with her. That is when Catman came out and when I got nipped in the leg. Probably a stupid move on my part to put myself between Lali and the Pit, but...hindsight and all that good stuff.

I'm glad we're Ok too. :D

Love and Hugs to you and The Husband Him. xoxoxo

Fel....i am so sorry that you had to be a part of this honey...i know that there is not a violent or aggressive bone in your body. i also know that you are a grizzly bear when defending and protecting the ones you love.

Jewell is right...i think you may have saved your neighbour from a potential awful incident. thank goodness Catman was there as although i know that if you and a pitbull ever got into a fist-fight - well, you would win hands down, but i am glad he was there to get you and Lali in the house safely.

honey - my pregnant cat got into a fight with a tom. i ran out and got in the middle of it to save my cat. it was horrifying. if you are feeling anxious or threatened or jumpy, that is normal. you are probably experiencing shock. please take care of yourself for the next few days - the shock might not even hit you until tomorrow or so.

and yes - poor Lali will take some time but she will come around, i promise. she just needs to feel safe and secure again - something that you and Catman and Bs and the menagerie have always provided. it'll just take some time again!

please promise to take care of yourself. and please promise to update us on how you are all doing, including your neighbour (who is probably also experiencing shock), over the next few days.

hugs and love to you all my friend,
kymber

You know, I was almost afraid to post about what happened because I was afraid you'd be worried about us.

Thank you, for your concern, I seem to be fine except for the bruises on my leg, but I will take your words to heart and take care of myself.

We took the dogs out for a walk a little while ago. Lali did ok except for when the dog down on the corner started barking at them. Lali shied away from the dog & leaned into Taelia, but she didn't try to bolt which was a good thing.

That little dog, Sadie, from the corner, is a monster. The man never has it on a leash and it has a Napoleon complex it charges anything and everything in it's path.

Thank you again, Kymber
Much <3 to you and Jamba

Wow! We have owned pits before. Some are ok, some are not. I think the breeding has a lot to do with them being agressive. One of ours were as sweet as could be. The other became agressive towards other dogs. I mean AGRESSIVE! I'm glad you guys are ok.

Thanks sfg~

I think breeding plays a part in their behavior as well. I've never owned a pit, but I have been around them, and when they are of sound temperament they are sweet as can be. My cousin had a really sweet girl, she was a big baby.

The Halloween party we went to, the couple that were hosting the party had 4 of them, 3 of them were roaming around amongst the guests, but the 4th one was in a back room because he said she didn't do well with people in costumes.

So...a lot of things play a part into the behaviors of not just pits but any dog.

Thanks again,

My friend...I am so glad things didn't go any further than they did!

As long as you and the pup are uninjured, that's the main thing!

You did good as the protector, but I'm sure it rattled you! Good thing you can still move quickly!

Have a great day, my friend!

Thank you, Uncle Hermit

Yes the main thing is we are uninjured.

I sure surprised myself with my speed and agility. I didn't think I had it in me anymore. Lol!
